adult faith formation

At. St. Pius X Parish we work very hard to make sure that we are not standing still in our journey toward God and eternal happiness with Him.  Continuing to learn about our faith is a big part of growing.  On Sunday mornings while the children and youth are in class learning about the faith, we, the adults, stick around to learn about our faith, too!!  This not only helps us have a strong faith to pass on to the young people in our parish, it also shows them what is important!!

Our U.S. Bishops offer the following excerpt from their 1999 document, “Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us”.  We will do our best to offer adult opportunities that will fulfill the Bishop’s goals, while enriching our parish community of St. Pius X.

TOOLS OF FAITH

The Bible is God’s written Word to us.  Is it sometimes hard to find God in this confusing, hurting and sometimes plain ol’ MEAN world? But God reveals Himself to us in many ways . . . . . one of which is the Bible.  His love can be at our fingertips ALL THE TIME!!  If you don’t have a Bible handy, here is a link to one on our US Bishops website [usccb.org].  Don’t know how to find your way around in the Bible?  Watch this short video which will give you the very basics.  Who knows!  Your heart might just be “set on fire” with the desire to know God, His Word and His love more and more!

Have you ever been asked questions about the Catholic faith that you just really couldn’t answer?  I think most of us have had that experience!  It is not so important that you don’t know an answer as to know where to go to FIND the answer!  Our Church is a teaching Church, meaning that the Truths are the same all across the Catholic Church, and that the Church has teaching to help us answer every question of faith and morals.  The Catechism of the Catholic Church [CCC] serves several important functions:

1. It conveys the essential and fundamental content of Catholic faith and morals in a complete and summary way.

2. It is a point of reference for national and diocesan catechisms.

3. It is a positive, objective and declarative exposition of Catholic doctrine.

4. It is intended to assist those who have the duty to catechize, namely promoters and teachers of catechesis.

Click on the image of the Catechism to be connected to the online version from our US Bishops [usccb.org].  Scroll down the table of contents to the section that addresses your question.  As always, your parish staff offers support and guidance as you seek to grow and lead your family in the faith!  We are on this journey together!
